The Phase I of DMRC project employs a total of 800 people. Out of this, 400 are in operation and maintenance and another 400 in construction. Among them, the senior staff is on deputation from other government organisations and agencies.
Sinha says, "Our recruitment policy emphasises on ''Catch them Young''. We are only recruiting people between the age group of 18 years to 30 years. Relaxation is for reserved candidates as per the government rules and the new recruits are permanent employees of the DMRC."
DMRC is providing indirect employment to around 20,000 people in construction, cleaning and maintenance- on contract basis. Employment is as station controllers, train operators, station assistants, junior engineers, system analysts, skilled artisans and maintainers and section engineers.
The minimum qualification required is graduation and the pay scale ranges between Rs 4,500 and Rs 9,000 per month. The junior engineer category is divided into electronic, electrical, signal and telecom, mechanical and civil.
An engineering degree or diploma is required. The pay scale varies between Rs 5,500 and Rs 9,000 per month.
The minimum qualification required is an MCA or an equivalent degree, to be a ''system analyst'' and the pay scale varies between Rs 6,550 and Rs 11,350.
About 14 sub-categories exist in the category of skilled artisans and maintenance staff like electricians, fitters, carpenters, millwrights or maintenance, machinists, forgers and heat treaters, blacksmiths, painters, welders, plumbers and mechanics with different requirements. The pay scale varies between Rs 3,600 and Rs 5,500 per month.
Only 350 people have been employed so far. Sinha remarks, "The future vacancies will be assessed as per the requirements."
Sinha says, "All eligible candidates are allowed to appear for the written test followed by an interview; a psychometric test and a medical examination." Sreedharan mentions, "I would like more young people to come forward to be a part of DMRC."
